Prof Dr Ben Slotman
Dr. Ben Slotman received his MD and PhD both with honor at the VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1985 and 1990, respectively. After a training in radiotherapy at the same institute, he received his registration as radiation oncologist in 1994. In 1998 he was appointed full professor of Radiation Oncology and Chair of the Department at VU University. He is presently also chairman of the Division of Laboratories, Pharmacy, Medical Physics, Radiology, Radiotherapy at VUmc. He functions as member or chairman of various regional, national and international committees and organizations.
He is the (co)-author of more than 180 peer reviewed publications. He has co-organized various conferences and has coordinated a number of studies, including the EORTC study on prophylactic cranial irradiation in extensive stage small cell lung cancer. He is currently principle investigator of a multicenter randomized trial on the role of thoracic irradiation in these patients. His further research activities are concentrated on intra- and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy and the introduction of various new technologies in radiotherapy.
