Prof Kjetil Søreide
Kjetil Søreide MD PhD works at the Department of Surgery, Stavanger University Hospital (SUH), in Stavanger, Norway. He received his medical training in Freiburg, Germany and performed internships in surgery, orthopedics, and internal medicine at SUH before obtaining his MD. After preliminary residency posts in surgery and pathology, he completed a PhD on clinical and molecular aspects of colorectal neoplasia in 2007 before continuing his surgical education. With a dedicated research focus on gastrointestinal surgery and oncology, he has also a keen interest in trauma and emergency surgery. Currently he holds the position as Associate professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Bergen, Norway will being a resident in General surgery at the Department of Surgery, Stavanger University Hospital, Norway.
With some 80 peer-reviewed original articles, reviews, editorials and book chapters, a major focus has been in the field of gastrointestinal cancer and neoplasia. The research work spans over topics from the molecular biology, epidemiology and clinical outcomes.
Søreide is currently involved in several ongoing research projects, both as supervisor/primary investigator and as coworker, including as a co-supervisor for a project evaluating national changes in the outcome of curatively treated colon and rectal cancer in Norway. He also is a investigator/supervisor in a research group consisting of surgeons, oncologists and molecular biologists co-working on the translational aspects of molecular topics in colorectal cancer.
An Editor of the BJS (British Journal of Surgery), he also serves on several editorial boards and frequently reviews for number of journals in the field of gastrointestinal surgery and oncology.
