Prof Marianna Nuti
Marianna Nuti is a Full Professor of General Pathology, Department of Experimental Medicine, Medical School, University of Rome Sapienza, ITALY and is currently Director of The Cell Therapy Unit, Policlinico Umberto I Hospital, Rome . Her expertise is mainly in the field of tumor immunology and most recently in translational medicine and vaccines for cancer treatment with a particolar interest for dendritic cell vaccination. She is author of numerous papers published in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in books. Dr. Nuti research has been supported by several national and international peer-reviewed grants and received several invitations for speaking engagements for seminars and meetings in her country and abroad. Her laboratory has a Cell Therapy Clean Room for the GMP preparation of cells for human use. The research activity of Prof.M.Nuti’s laboratory has focused on the humoral and cellular immune response to several tumor associated antigens in cancer patients and in the development of strategies to overcome immunesuppression and induce immune activation. She has been actively involved in the generation of MoAbs against different TAA some of which of important use in cancer research (USA Patent) and other for industrial use. The laboratory has acquired expertise in the culture of human DCs and is currently involved in vaccination trials for gynecological cancer patients.
The research group has a longstanding collaboration with numerous research groups in USA and Europe also supported by international funding (EC grants).
Prof. Nuti started her training as Fullbright Fellow at the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas in 1979-80. Later she continued as post-Doc as Fogarthy Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA at the Laboratory of Tumor Immunology Directed by Dr. Schlom for over three years. She finally returned in Italy and was appointed as Professor in 1992 first at the University of Pisa Medical School and later at the University of Rome Sapienza. She is actively working also in the academic administrative management and is in charge of a number of committees and advisory board.
