Prof Hans W Nijman
Hans W. Nijman studied medicine and did his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 1995 he received his PhD at the VU University Amsterdam on the role of antigen processing and presentation in cancer.
He was trained as a fellow in Gynaecological Oncology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), Groningen University, The Netherlands, and at Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Center, Toronto, Canada financed by the Dutch Cancer Society, KWF. Since 2003 he is appointed as staff member at the UMCG, working as Gynaecologic Oncologist. He received a personal grant from the Dutch Cancer Society, KWF, for a period of 6 years (2003 – 2008). This grant helped him to build up his own research team focusing on translational research in the field of tumor immunology with special interest in gynaecologic malignancies. He was appointed full professor in 2008 at the UMCG.
His specific areas of expertise include cellular immunology, tumor immunology, phase I- II immunotherapy based clinical trials, gynaecologic oncology, minimal invasive surgery.
