Excellence in Oncology

EiO Keynote Speaker, Prof. Gordon McVie is excited to be visiting Athens … learn more

I am excited to be visiting Athens for the first Excellence in Oncology Conference. Excited to be in Athens again of course, but also privileged to be part of the launch of a novel initiative. The Excellence meeting is stacked with lectures by opinion leaders from all over the world. They constitute a veritable Who’s Who in cancer care. A quick scan through Google will verify my views. So all the top teachers will be performing and all the hot topics are covered. I don’t expect to hear about the discovery of the latest cancer gene, but I know I shall hear about the impact that that gene will have on managing my patients.

I compliment C&C for their bold initiative and welcome the partnership of some very prestigious cancer organizations, such as the American Cancer Society and the Union for International Control of Cancer. Finally may I say that this conference has re-united me with a friend of a quarter century back, Prof Costas Alexopoulos, who is hosting the meeting.

I look forward very much to co-chairing the second Excellence in Oncology Conference with him – in Istanbul, Feb 2012.
