Dr. C.G. Alexopoulos graduated from the Medical Schools of the University of Athens in March 1964. He was trained in Clinical Haematology and Tumour Immunology in the Dpt of Haematology at University College Hospital, London, from 1974 to 1975. From 1975 to 1977 he was trained in Medical Oncology at the Department of Medicine, at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

From 1968 until 1985 he held the positions of Senior House Officer, Senior Registrar and Consulting Physician at the Medical Unit of the Athens Medical School at Evangelismos Medical Center. In the period from 1974 to 1977 he was a Research Fellow at the University College Hospital, London and at the Chester Beatty Cancer Institute in London, as well as a Senior Registrar in the Department of Medicine at the Royal Marsden Hospital. In 1983, he was elected Associate Professor in Medicine at the Athens Medical School (with honours). In 1985 he was appointed Consultant Medical Oncologist in the newly-founded NHS Department of Medical Oncology at Evangelismos Hospital and he served as Director of the department until 2006. Since 2007, he works as Consultant Medical Oncologist at Iatriko Medical Center, private hospital, Athens, Greece.

He is member of the Royal College of Physicians of UK (MRCP) since July 1976 and elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) since July 1992. He got the accreditation of Medical Oncology, in UK, in December 1976, and he received the Certificate of Medical Oncology of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), in March 1994. He has published a considerable number of papers in leading peer-reviewed international medical journals and in Proceedings of international conferences.

Dr. C.G. Alexopoulos is a founding member of the Hellenic Lymphoma Study Group, the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology and the Professional Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the Balkan Union of Oncology (BUON), the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the European Lung Cancer Working Party (ELCWP), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC-BCG) and the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC).
